This dhansak mix is a wonderful mix of spices and herbs that may look overwhelming to the eye; however, each ingredient has been carefully chosen for its unique taste, smell and use.

This aromatic combination dates back centuries and is inspired by the Parsi people and their cooking.

Add the spice to curry and it will create a sweet rich flavour with a delightful aroma.

It is traditionally used with lamb, goat meat or mutton, however, tastes amazing with chicken, fish or vegetable curry too.

The flavour of this dhansak mix is so divine that once you try it there is no turning back and you will continue cooking with it for years to come.

Ingredients: 

Bayleaf, Black Pepper, Caraway, Cardamom green, Cinnamon, Cloves, Coriander, Cumin, Fenugreek, Garlic, Ginger, Mango powder, Mustard Seeds black, Nutmeg, Paprika, Poppy Seeds white, Star Anise, and Turmeric.

RECIPE 

LENTIL AND SPINACH MIX

Ingredients:

* Leena Dhansak spice 2 tsp

* Red lentils 250g

* Spinach chopped 250g

* Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp

* Black mustard seeds 1/4 tsp

* 1 medium onion, finely chopped

* 2 medium tomatoes, chopped

* Minced garlic 1 tsp

* Minced ginger 1 tsp

* Olive oil 2 - 3 Tbsp

* Yoghurt or lemon juice 1 tsp

* Few leaves of mint and coriander, chopped

* 2 cups of water

* Cayanne pepper to taste

* Salt to taste

Method

1. Soak lentil in hot water for 20 minutes

2. Heat oil in a saucepan on medium heat.

3. Add cumin and mustard seeds and onion. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes.

4. Add minced garlic and ginger. Fry until golden brown.

5. Add Leena Dhansak spice, salt, Cayenne and tomatoes. Cook for 5 minutes.

6. Add lentils and water. You can add more water if you need to.

7. Cover and cook for 30 minutes or until tender.

8. Add spinach, mint, coriander and cook for 5 minutes more. Stir.

9. Add yoghurt or lemon juice.

10. Mix well and serve.

* You can also add chicken, lamb, vegetables or paneer of your choice. This can be added along when you add lentil.

We Love This!

Being so far across the world (ordering from New Zealand to arrive in Canada) it takes a while and costs quite a lot to ship, but this is our very favourite curry blend and we are hooked. I can’t wait to try some of the other spice mixtures!
