What are Asario Seeds?

Leena Spices

The Weight Loss Benefits of Asario Seeds

Asario seeds are often referred to as halim seeds or garden cress seeds. The phrase garden cress comes from the Germanic word cresso which translates to sharp and spicy.

The edible herb is exactly that. Related to watercress and mustard, the plant presents a peppery, tangy taste and aroma and when consumed raw is high in beneficial nutrients such as vitamin A, C, and K.

What are the health benefits?

Many people in Western culture and Indian cultures alike, rave about the health benefits of Asario seeds and their ability to help people lose weight. Celebrity health trainers use the seeds to raise mood, libido, increase oxygenation in the brain, and much more. The iron, folic, fibre-rich seeds are perfect when added to a drink in the morning, such as coconut, milk, or even water.

Halim seeds are extremely high in vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin C, protein, iron, folic acid, and fibre. They are commonly used in weight loss programmes because the seeds produce a feeling of fullness and prevent people from overeating. Many people add them to carb-less meals such as salads so they can feel fuller for longer.

How do I eat the seeds?

Halim seeds are versatile and can easily be included with many different ingredients and recipes. To gain the maximum health benefits from your asario seeds, there are different preparation methods you can implement.

Roasted

Heat the seeds on a dry pan for 4 minutes and once they change colour take them off the heat and let them cool. Store them in an airtight container.

Soaked

Soak asario seeds in water or warm milk (2 tablespoons for every 1 tablespoon of seeds). This will turn the seeds into a soft jelly-type consistency.

Sprouted

Soak the halim seeds overnight and then spread over moist soil. Within 5 days, shoots will appear and start to grow. These shoots are tasty on a salad, sandwich, or in a chutney.
